WSSAAA Alli Bennett Scholarship

To promote the organization’s goals and to encourage post-high school education for children of active WSSAAA members, the Washington Secondary School Athletic Administrators Association will award the Alli Bennett Memorial Scholarships to the children of current active WSSAAA members who are graduating high school seniors.

A minimum of two $1,000 scholarships will be given, and more scholarships may be ordered, depending on the financial status of the organization.

The application will be completed by the student and their parent using the parents WSSAAA account.

The selection committee will review all applications and select two or more recipients. Those awarded, the scholarships, will be notified by telephone and/or by letter, and may be invited to be honored at the WSSAAA Spring Convention in April. All applicants will be notified of the decision no later than April 1st, and scholarships will be submitted to the college upon enrollment.

Selection Criteria

  1. Only completed applications submitted by the deadline will be considered.
  2. The applicant must be a graduating high school senior and the child or legal ward of a current active WSSAAA member. An active WSSAAA member is currently working as a school or district level athletic director or a contributing member of the WSSAAA organization.
  3. The applicant shall have a minimum 3.0 cumulative high school grade point average; transcripts must be uploaded with the application.
  4. The applicant must have participated in at least 4 seasons of high school athletics or activities sometime during grades 9-12. You will be asked to list this participation on your application.
  5. The applicant shall have demonstrated service to their school and/or community and good citizenship. You will be asked to provide a description of these activities on your application.
  6. The applicant must upload an essay on the listed topic with their application.
  7. The applicant must upload letters of recommendation from two school officials (principal, athletic director, coaches, teachers, counselors, or other school officials). The person making the recommendation may not be related to the applicant, nor a WSSAAA board member.

WSSAAA Athletic Director Hall of Fame Award

The WSSAAA Hall of Fame Induction Banquet is held annually at our Spring State Conference. WSSAAA reserves this award for those who represent the highest degree of merit in our profession. Nomination forms are to be submitted to a WIAA District WSSAAA Board Members. Basic Criteria for WSSAAA Hall of Fame:

  1. Retired athletic director with 10 years of experience as an athletic administrator and 20 years of experience as an educator involved in athletics. Or, Active athletic director with 15 years of experience as an athletic administrator and 30 years as an educator involved in athletics.
  2. Years of service as an athletic administrator.
  3. Leadership roles at school, league, district, state, and national level, or program in the State of Washington.
  4. Affiliation with WSSAAA.
  5. Major contributions to athletics at the school, league, district, and state levels.
  6. Completed nomination form that includes resume’ and three letters of recommendation

WSSAAA Athletic Director Of The Year

Every year, Athletic Directors around the state honor their colleagues for their service, work-ethic and professionalism. League athletic directors are recognized and chosen as AD of the year. Those nominations are brought before WIAA district boards around the state to determine who among the finest will be honored at the district level, and ultimately represent their district at the WSSAAA State Conference. It is at the state conference where athletic directors annually celebrate the accomplishments of these outstanding district athletic directors. Below, you will find our past honorees and the Athletic Administrators who were annually chosen as WSSAAA State AD of the YEAR.

Please read and check all boxes to move forward. You will need a copy of the seven criteria to address in your nomination summary.

The Candidate must meet the 7 Criteria:
  • Be a member of WSSAAA and be selected by their WSSAAA District.
  • Be an active athletic administrator (at least five years)
  • Be recognized as an educational leader who maintains that athletics is an integral par of the total educational program.
  • Administer an exemplary athletic program that involves as many students as possible, making full use of school and community resources.
  • Have made a significant impact on the lives of students.
  • Have used athletics as a catalyst to achieve some demonstrable progress in the social and cultural environment of the school and/or community.
  • Be active in league, district, regional and/or state committees. ​

WSSAAA Athletic Director Service Award

This award was created to recognize those Athletic Directors who have made a significant contribution at the school, league, regional, or state level. This is not intended to be a lifetime achievement award! The intent is to recognize hard working A.D.s for an outstanding achievement. The idea is to recognize people long before retirement.

WSSAAA Commendation Award

Awarded to those outside the profession of education and the athletic program. (i.e. team doctors, volunteer workers, fund raisers, promoters, staff members not associated with the athletic program, etc.)

Awarded to those in the Education Profession associated with the athletic program. (i.e. Superintendents, Principals, Secretaries...)
